New Farming Model
The farmer plays an important role in the “biomass fuel” development by planting the crops on formerly fallow land. Thereafter it requires very little husbandry other than harvesting and occasional fertilizer applications. The cycle makes the land more productive than before, reduces soil erosion and provides a habitat for wildlife.
The Switchgrass hay is harvested 1-2 times per year, pelletized and used as fuel for the R ENERGY system. A small amount of char (solid waste) is a byproduct and can be returned to the land as fertilizer to improve the soil conditions. Good biomass CO2 will also be produced and may be captured for various industrial uses or returned to the atmosphere where it is recycled and adsorbed by plants via photosynthesis and the cycle repeats.
The local farming community benefits from the new income sources this “biomass fuel” growing and processing creates.
